The Kenshikan Dojo is a Japanese martial arts training hall that was established in July 1990. Located close to Melbourne's CBD in West Melbourne, the Kenshikan is the only purpose built Japanese Kendo dojo in Victoria.
The Kenshikan was established by the late Kenshiro Otsuka to encourage goodwill and cooperation between Australia and Japan through the principles and practice of Kendo. Read about the History of Kenshikan
The Kenshikan is owned and governed by the Kenshikan Trust (a non profit organisation). Since the Kenshikan's establishment in 1990, the Melbourne Budokai
has had the privilege and responsibility of being the dojo's caretaker. The Kenshikan is also home to the Victorian Kendo Renmei (the governing body for Kendo Iaido, and Jodo in Victoria) which holds various events including gradings, seminars, and state team training sessions at the Kenshikan Dojo.
Throughout the years the Kenshikan has received tremendous support from various individuals, businesses, clubs, and communities throughout Australia and overseas. Without this generous support the continuing use of this unique facility would not have been possible (see 'Kenshikan Restoration Project
